Achim Tröster, the outgoing Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh, paid a farewell courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna, marking end of his four-year diplomatic assignment in Dhaka.
During the meeting, Chief Adviser Prof. Yunus congratulated Ambassador Tröster on the successful completion of his tenure and lauded his contributions to deepening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Germany.
“Germany has always been a reliable partner in our development journey,” said Prof. Yunus, expressing appreciation for Germany’s consistent support across trade, development, and humanitarian sectors.
Reflecting on his time in Bangladesh, Ambassador Tröster spoke warmly of the experience. “I’ve had many interesting assignments in my career, but Bangladesh truly stands out,” he said. “The hospitality of the Bangladeshi people has been overwhelming. I leave with immense gratitude and deep respect.”
He commended Bangladesh’s recent Investment Summit and voiced support for the interim government’s reform agenda. “I wish the reform process every success and hope to see a free and fair election,” he added.
Prof. Yunus acknowledged Germany’s critical role as Bangladesh’s largest European trading partner and expressed particular gratitude for Berlin’s continued development cooperation and humanitarian assistance, especially regarding the Rohingya crisis.
“We value Germany’s unwavering support for the Rohingya refugees and other vital areas,” Prof. Yunus said.
As the meeting concluded, he extended his best wishes to the outgoing envoy and remarked, “We hope to hear from you even after your departure; your insights, whether critical or supportive, are always welcome. You are a true friend of Bangladesh.”
Also present at the meeting were SDG Coordinator and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed and Md. Mosharaf Hossain, Director General for West Europe and EU Affairs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
