A specialist from Singapore has arrived in Bangladesh to assist in the treatment of firefighters critically injured in Monday’s chemical warehouse blaze in Gazipur’s Tongi.
Dr S.I. Zachak, who was also part of the foreign medical team during the Milestone School tragedy, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday night and went directly to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Around 11:30 PM, he held a meeting with the hospital director and attending doctors to review the conditions of the injured fire service personnel.
He also met with Prof. Md Sayedur Rahman, special assistant at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, before visiting the burn unit to check on the victims.
According to a Fire Service press release, the visit aimed to ensure advanced medical care for the injured. Senior Fire Service officials, including Director (Training, Planning and Development) Lt Col M.A. Azad Anwar, accompanied him during the inspection.
Four firefighters suffered severe burns—two of them with 100% burns—while tackling the Tongi blaze, sparking urgent efforts to secure international medical support.
