The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Northern Region Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam has said that despite the Election Commission’s arbitrariness or external pressure, the NCP will contest the upcoming national election using the Shapla (Water Lily) symbol.
Speaking to the reporters at the NCP’s Natore District Coordination Meeting on Monday, he said,“The Election Commission has no option but to allocate the Shapla symbol to NCP.”
Sarjis alleged that an Election Commission that fails to allocate a symbol to a registered party loses credibility before the people. “There are no legal obstacles to NCP getting the Shapla symbol, and the commission has shown no valid reason for withholding it,” he added.
Regarding possible electoral alliances, Sarjis said discussions with various political parties are ongoing to determine whether the NCP will contest jointly in the next national polls. “To strengthen our organizational base, NCP aims to form committees at the district, upazila, and unit levels by November,” he added.
He further noted that reforms will be carried out in line with the July Charter, followed by the national election. “A positive alliance discussion is ongoing among NCP, Gono Odhikar Parishad, and AB Party,” he said.
The meeting was presided over by Professor S. M. Jarjis Kadir Babu, Chief Coordinator of NCP’s Natore District Unit.
Among others, Imran Imon, Rajshahi Divisional Organizing Secretary, Abdul Mannaf, Senior Joint Coordinator, and Abdullah Al Noman Piyas, Joint Coordinator were present on the occasion.
