Thirty-five teachers of Sylhet’s Shahjajlal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have quit from their administrative posts on Monday.
The resignation comes amid a movement by pro-Awami League teachers’ panel demanding removal of vice chancellor (VC) Aminul Haque Bhuiyan.
The teachers, who belong to the pro-AL panel, announced their decision around 10.30am during a demonstration in front of the VC’s residence.
Later, representatives of the teachers submitted the resignations to the Registrar Ishraqul Hossain.
On Apr 15, the teachers’ panel had set Sunday afternoon as deadline for the VC to step down.
It was then decided that the teachers would quit from the university’s administration, if the VC does not resign.
“The teachers think that it’s not possible to work with the VC due to his inability to run the university administration.
“The VC on several occasions has insulted the teachers,” said the teachers’ panel Convener Mostabur Rahman.
