Bangladesh has added 2 million new mobile subscribers in the first quarter of 2015, making it one of the top countries globally in net additions, according to a report by telecoms equipment manufacturer Ericsson.
A media statement by Ericsson Bangladeshon Thursday said that youth culture, urbanisation and the rise of smart phones were three key trends with a significant impact on Bangladesh’s ICT sector.
Ericsson’s Mobility Report (for the Asia Pacific Region) was launched on Jun 3.
It says that Bangladesh is in the list of top countries globally for net additions.
“Surveys show that social networking, instant messaging and video streaming dominate Smartphone usage with varied app preference from market to market. Facebook and YouTube consistently seen in the top 5 mobile apps in the countries analysed”, the statement quoted Ericsson Bangladesh Managing Director Raj as saying.
According to the report, South East Asia and Oceania countries’ gap in network performance between mature ICT countries with 4G/ LTE deployed and developing countries has widened.
