Bangladesh will celebrate its 46th Independence Day and National Day on 26th March with due solemnity and festivity.
On March 26, 1971, father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared Bangladesh’s independence following the crackdown on unarmed Bangalis on the midnight of March 25 by the Pakistani occupation forces.
After a nine-month bloody War of Liberation, the people of the country achieved its cherished independence on December 16, 1971.
Different organisations in the UK and worldwide will celebrate this day with festivity and colourful mood.
The national flag would be hoisted atop government and private buildings while the government and semi-government buildings and other public places would be decorated in celebration.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will issue separate messages on the eve of the Independence and National day, greeting the countrymen on the occasion.
The president, PM and other political leaders will place wreaths at the National Mausoleum at Savar at sunrise.
The ruling party leaders led by Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will place wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Bhaban at 7am.
BNP leaders and activists will place wreaths at the National Mausoleum at Savar at 8am and at the grave of Ziaur Rahman at 10am.
The Armed Forces Division will organise a programme at sunrise in which guns will be fired for 31 times.
