Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that accused former IG Benazir Ahmed’s trial will go on even though he is in abroad.
“If found guilty, Benazir has to return home. The government will not compromise on the issue.”
Obaidul Quader, also Awami League general secretary, said these while briefing journalists at Awami League’s Dhanmondi office on Sunday.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) are investigating Benazir Ahmed’s alleged corruption. Investigation, case, arrest–everything are under legal process. Why will the government take step defying the ACC? If there found any fault against the anti-corruption organisations, steps will be taken against those.”
When asking about Benazir Ahmed fled abroad with the help of the government, Obaidul Quader said, “Who went and put him in a plane? Which authority went and gave him up? Don’t throw stones in the dark.”
He said that it would not be appropriate to blame the government for the corruption committed by Benazir.
