Dr Yunus, advisers pay homage to Liberation War martyrs at Savar

The head of the newly formed interim government, Dr Muhammad Yunus, and other members of the advisory council paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar on Friday morning.

Dr Yunus at first laid wreaths at the memorial in honour of the Liberation War martyrs at around 10am amid heavy rain.

He then stood in solemn silence there for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs.

A contingent comprising members of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force presented a state salute during the ceremony, while bugles played the last post.

Later, Dr Yunus, joined by other advisers, laid another wreath in his capacity as the head of the government.

After the tribute, the president signed the visitors’ book at the memorial.

On Thursday night, Dr Yunus, along with 13 other members of the interim government, was sworn in.
