Former housing and public works minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury was arrested from Mirpur in Dhaka on Thursday night.
DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Rezaul Karim Mallick early Friday said that a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained him.
The former minister has been arrested in a murder case filed over the death of a madrasa student in a clash between the activists of Awami League and Hefazat-e-Islam in Brahmanbaria in 2021, he said.
He will be produced before a court on Friday and they will seek a remand to interrogate him.
Muktadir Chowdhury is a former Awami League lawmaker from Brahmanbaria-3. He was first elected in a by-election in 2011. He was a fourth-time MP from Awami League.
