New commuter trains launched on Dhaka-Gazipur route

Four pairs of new commuter trains were launched on the Dhaka-Joydebpur-Dhaka railway route on Sunday, aiming to improve communication between the capital and Gazipur.

The service was officially inaugurated at Joydebpur Railway Junction at around 7 am by Transport Advisor Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan.
At the inaugural programme, he paid tribute to the martyrs of the anti-discrimination movement and emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the communication system, especially for the people of Gazipur.

The adviser also revealed plans to launch commuter train services between Dhaka and Narsingdi, as well as Dhaka and Narayanganj in the future.

The new commuter trains are Turag Commuter-1, Turag Commuter-2, Turag Commuter-3, Turag Commuter-4, Joydebpur Commuter-1, Joydebpur Commuter-2, Joydebpur Commuter-3, and Joydebpur Commuter-4.

The trains will stop at Dhaka Airport, Tejgaon, Banani, Tongi, and Dhirashram stations.

The Turag commuter service will remain closed on Fridays, while the Joydebpur commuter will not run on Saturdays.

Passengers can travel from Gazipur to Kamalapur for a fare of just Tk 20.

The new trains will make travel easier for daily commuters, including students and workers.

The new train service launch has been welcomed by the residents of Gazipur, who are excited about the improved connectivity, reports UNB.

However, there are calls for additional services to accommodate the growing number of passengers in the area.
