Ex-NCC mayor Ivy denied bail

A Narayanganj court has rejected the bail petitions of former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy in two cases filed over murder and attempted murder charges.

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Narayanganj, Haidar Ali, gave the order after a hearing on Wednesday.

Court Police Inspector Kaiyum Khan confirmed the information.

Former mayor was arrested from her residence at Deobhog area of Narayanganj on 9 May. She is currently being held at Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail.

Ivy’s lawyer, Awlad Hossain, said bail was sought in two cases filed with Siddhirganj Police Station; one over the murder of rickshaw-puller Md Tuhin and another for attempted murder of hawker Nadim. After the hearing, judge rejected both bail applications.

He also mentioned that on the same day, bail was sought in another case filed over the murder of garment worker Minarul Islam at court of District and Sessions Judge Abu Shamim Azad. As the hearing on police’s remand plea for questioning Ivy is yet to be completed, the court scheduled the bail hearing for May 27.

The remand hearing in Minarul’s case is set for May 25, according to Court inspector Kaiyum.

Earlier, police showed Ivy as “shown arrested” in cases related to Tuhin and Nadim.
