Bangladesh go down 2-0 to Vietnam

Bangladesh U-23 football started their AFC Asian Cup qualification campaign on a losing note, as they suffered a 2-0 goal defeat to host Vietnam in their opening group C match held at Phu Tho provincial stadium in Vietnam on Wednesday.

The early breakthrough came for Vietnam when forward Nguyen Ngoc My scored the first goal in the 15th minute from a well-judged angular shot from the top of the box, and after the resumption, substitute midfielder Li Viktor sealed the victory, scoring the second goal for Vietnam with a header from inside the small D-box in the 83rd minute.

The Bangladesh U-23 football team will play their remaining group matches against Yemen and Singapore on September 6 and September 9, respectively.

Forty-four Asian teams, split into eleven groups, are taking part in the meet.

Later, eleven group champion teams, four best group runners-up and hosts Saudi Arabia will play in the 16-team final round to be held in Saudi Arabia in January next year.
