Bangladesh will observe state mourning on Saturday (December 20) over the death of martyred Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced this on Thursday night during an address to the nation, just after the death of Hadi.
He said that the national flag will be flown at half-mast on Saturday at all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, all public and private buildings, as well as Bangladesh missions abroad.
“The government will take responsibility for the wife and only child of Shaheed Osman Hadi,” Prof Yunus said while addressing the nation.
“Today, I came before you with very heartbreaking news. Sharif Osman Hadi, the fearless frontline fighter of the July Uprising and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, is no more among us. Singapore’s Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan informed me of the matter over the phone a few minutes ago.”
He expressed profound shock and sorrow at the untimely demise of Hadi and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, relatives and colleagues.
Urging the countrymen to pray for eternal peace of the departed soul of Shaheed Hadi, the Chief Adviser said, “May the Almighty Allah accept this immortal soldier of the struggle against fascism and hegemony as a martyr. We all pray this together.”
