Bangladesh set to receive nearly 2 lakh tonnes of LNG in 10 days

Bangladesh is set to receive around 192,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) over the next ten days as part of efforts to stabilise energy supply amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

State-run Petrobangla confirmed that three LNG consignments from Australia, Indonesia and the United States are being delivered through separate vessels to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability.

The first shipment has already arrived at Chattogram Port. The Liberian-flagged tanker HL Puffin docked, carrying nearly 62,000 tonnes of LNG from Australia.

Officials said preparations are underway to unload the cargo at the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) operated by RPGCL at Moheshkhali in the Bay of Bengal.

Port sources said a second LNG carrier, New Brave, is expected to arrive on March 27 with nearly 61,500 tonnes of LNG from Indonesia. A third vessel, Celsius Galapagos, flying the Marshall Islands flag, is scheduled to arrive on April 4 carrying an estimated 70,000 tonnes from the United States.

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Md Omar Faruk said the ongoing Middle East conflict has intensified global energy market uncertainties, with ripple effects reaching Bangladesh.

He added that authorities are giving priority to LNG vessels to ensure quick unloading and distribution.

Officials believe the timely arrival of these shipments will help maintain stability in the country’s gas supply chain and mitigate potential disruptions linked to external market volatility.
