Amid concerns over supplies of fuel oil and gas, two more vessels carrying Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) arrived at Chattogram Port on Saturday.
Of the vessels, Thailand-flagged “Gas Courage” arrived from India while another tanker, “DL Lily” arrived from Malaysia.
Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim informed that the vessels anchored at the Bravo and Charlie anchorages of the port on Saturday.
Four more vessels carrying LPG and liquefied natural gas (LNG) are scheduled to arrive in the country by 18 April, he said.
Among them, the Hong Kong-flagged vessel “Kongtong” arriving from the USA was scheduled to reach the port on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, another vessel, “Emei,” reached the Floating Storage Regasification Unit carrying LNG from the USA.
After the joint attack by the United States and Israel on Iran on 28 February, conflict spread across the Middle East. It disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, affecting fuel imports of various countries, including Bangladesh.
Consequently, several energy-laden ships could not reach the country on time, creating pressure on supply. In this situation, the government has taken initiatives to procure fuel from alternative sources.
According to sources in the CPA, around 48 vessels carrying LNG, Monoethylene Glycol (MEG), High Sulfur Fuel Oil (HSFO), gas oil, LPG, and base oil have reached the country since the war began on 28 February.
