Border Security Force (BSF) of India and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have agreed to strengthen joint efforts against trans-border crimes and enhance cooperation to maintain peace and stability along the Bangladesh-India border.
The commitment came at the 57th Director General-level Border Coordination Conference held at BSF Headquarters in New Delhi from 8-11 June.
BSF Director General Shri Praveen Kumar led the Indian delegation, while BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui headed the Bangladesh delegation.
The four-day conference reviewed the prevailing border situation and addressed a wide range of issues related to border security and management.
Officials from both sides discussed measures to prevent trans-border crimes, including narcotics and arms smuggling, counterfeit currency circulation, gold smuggling, illegal border crossings and human trafficking.
The delegations also exchanged views on border deaths, illegal, inadvertent and forcible crossings, construction of border infrastructure, implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan and confidence-building measures.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, tranquillity and stability along the border and agreed to strengthen coordinated patrols, increase vigilance, improve real-time information sharing and intensify action against trans-border criminal networks.
The conference also stressed the need to raise awareness among border residents about the sanctity of the international boundary and discourage illegal activities in border areas.
BSF and BGB reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards trans-border crimes, insurgent activities and any actions that threaten border security.
The two border forces expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the conference and pledged to deepen professional engagement and mutual trust to ensure secure and peaceful borders.
The conference concluded on Thursday with the signing of a Joint Record of Discussions. Both delegations expressed confidence that the decisions reached during the meeting would strengthen bilateral cooperation and contribute to more effective border management.
The next Director General-level conference is scheduled to take place in Dhaka in November 2026 at a mutually convenient time.
