Bangladesh national team pace bowler Rubel Hossain was released on bail from prison
after a Dhaka court here on Sunday granted him bail in a rape case filed by actress
Naznin Akter Happy.
He was released when the court order was handed over to the concerned prison officials
of Dhaka Central Jail, this afternoon.
Earlier in the day, judge (in-charge) KM Imrul Kayes of the Metropolitan Sessions
Judge`s Court of Dhaka granted bail to Rubel following a plea submitted by his defense
lawyer Sajoy Chatterjee.
In the petition, Rubel said he sought the bail as Bangladesh team will fly for Brisbane on
January 24 to play the World Cup.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday announced a 15-member team
including the 25-year-old bowler for the next ICC World Cup scheduled to begin in
Australia and New Zealand from February 14.
Earlier on Thursday, a lower court sent Rubel Hossain to jail after he had surrendered
before the court Metropolitan Magistrate Anwar Sadat and pleaded for bail.
On December 13 last year, actress Happy filed the case with the Mirpur Model Police
Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Later on December 15, the High Court granted a four-week anticipatory bail to Rubel
after he filed a bail plea to the court.
Happy alleged that the national pacer had physical relationship with her for several times
luring her for a marriage but later refused to marry her.
