Hero Alam attacked during by-polls to Dhaka-17

Independent candidate for Dhaka-17 constituency by-polls Hero Alam came under attack at a polling centre in Dhaka Monday afternoon.

He came under attack at Bidyaniketan School polling centre at about 3.15 pm in city’s Banani area.

Hero Alam went to visit Bidyaniketan School polling centre at about 3.00pm. Supporters of ruling Awami League (AL) hurled abusive words at him for entering into the polling centre and they also asked him to leave the polling centre.

Law enforcement members escorted Hero Alam to the gate of the centre sensing a chaotic situation inside the centre over the visit of this candidate. AL supporters chased him when he went to Road No-16 and started beat him mercilessly.

Though the associates of Hero Alam attempted to save him but the attackers were continuing to chase him on Road No-23 of Block-A in Banani area.

It was heard that an activist of AL was saying that “He makes TikTok videos. He is a joker. Why he wants to be MP of Gulshan-Banani? Does he know the importance of MP?”

Another supporter was saying that “No need to beat him. Just chase him.”

About the attack Hero Alam said, “Attempts were being made to obstruct me from the beginning of the by-polls. A group of youths chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan attacked me when I reached Bidyaniketan School polling centre at about 3.00pm. They beat me mercilessly and tore my cloth.”

All the attackers were supporters of ruling Chhatra League and Juba League, he said.
