Three buses torched in city on last day of hartal

Unidentified miscreants set fire to two buses, including a staff bus of Bangladesh Bank, on Monday afternoon, on the last day of 48-hour hartal enforced by the BNP and its allies.

Fire Service Duty Officer Ershad Hossain said they got the information of the fire incident in front of the Modhumoti Cinema Hall at Motijheel at around 3pm.

Two units of fire fighter rushed to the spot and the blaze doused before they reached there.

No casualties were reported in the incident, he added.

In Paltan, arsonists posing as passengers torched a bus of ‘Tanjeel Paribahan’ in Paltan area around 5:10pm. However, no casualties were reported as all passengers got out safely.

Passengers got off the bus in Paltan after they saw flames at the back of the bus. Pedestrians later doused the blaze, he said.

In Mirpur, a BRTC double decker bus was set on fire in the afternoon.

The incident took place at around 2.30pm in Mirpur-10.

Being informed, two firefighting units rushed to the spot around 2:35pm and doused the flame within 10 minutes, said Shahjahan Sardar, senior station officer of Mirpur Fire Station.

However, no casualties were reported in this incident, he added.
