At least three members of a family were killed and three others sustained injuries in a crash between a autorickshaw and a covered van at Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district on Sunday evening.
The accident happened around 7pm on Sunday on the Moulvibazar-Barolekha regional highway at Achurighat area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Deenbandhu Munda, his son Pujan Munda, and brother Rabindra Munda from Kuchai Fnari tea garden area in Juri upazila.
Meanwhile, the injured are Deenbandhu’s wife Kabita Munda, his elder brother Gopal Munda and the autorickshaw driver Amir Uddin.
According to the deceased relatives, the family was returning home after visiting a relative’s house at Sreemangal. On the way, their CNG-run autorickshaw collided head-on with a covered van, leaving Pujan Munda dead on the spot and five others critically injured.
The injured were rescued, but two of them succumbed their injuries on the way to hospital while three others were undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Confirming the matter, Kulaura Police Station officer-in-charge Ali Mahmud said the bodies will be handed over to the family members after the completion of legal procedures.
The process to file a case in this regard was underway, added the OC.
