Sheikh Hasina sued in two murder, one attempt to murder cases

Two separate cases have been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on charge of killing of Salam Babu and Selim Ali Sheikh in different areas of Dhaka during the anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Tofazzal Hossain, father of auto-rickshaw driver Salam Babu, who was killed in Uttara House Building area on July 22, filed a complaint against 46 people, including Hasina, with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury.

Later, after recording statement of the complainant, the court asked Uttara East Police Station to file the matter as first information report (FIR).

A family member of Selim Ali Sheikh, who was killed in Mirpur-10 area on July 19, filed a complaint against 25 people, including Sheikh Hasina, with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan over the killing of Selim Ali Sheikh in Mirpur area.

The court recorded the statement of the complainant and asked Mirpur Model Police Station to file the matter as FIR.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 26 others have been sued on charges of attempted murder of a lawyer of Dhaka Bar Association in front of the Supreme Court in December 2013.

Rehana Parvin, the victim, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam. The magistrate asked the officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station to submit a report after an investigation into the matter.

Other accused in the case include former home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former lawmakers Amir Hossain Amu, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former inspectors general of police Hassan Mahmood Khandker and Benazir Ahmed, former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh and expelled Juba League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat.

Rehana Parvin in her complaint said she was beaten up mercilessly in front of the Supreme Court on December 29 afternoon, 2013 during a protest rally for restoration of the caretaker government.

Later, she was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
