Ex-DMP chief Asaduzzaman Mia on 7-day remand in murder case

A Dhaka court has placed former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on a seven-day remand for questioning in a case over the murder of a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader in police custody around a decade ago.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam placed the accused on remand on Thursday after the police produced him before the court with a 10-day remand plea.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Asaduzzaman Mia from Mohakhali flyover in the capital on Wednesday night.

Md Nuruzzaman Jony, former general secretary of Khilgaon Thana Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal in the capital, died in police custody at Khilgaon area on January 20, 2015.

After around a decade, his father Yaqub Ali filed a case with the Khilgaon police station on September 3, 2024, in this connection.

Asaduzzaman Mia is the 12th accused in the case.
