Over 50 hurt in clash over football match in Sunamganj

More than 50 people were injured in a clash over a football match at Shantiganj upazila in Sunamganj district on Monday.

According to locals, a tension arose between the supporters of current East Birgaon Union Parishad chairman Riazul Islam Raizul and former chairman Noor Kalam at Birgaon Bazar area on Sunday afternoon over a football match. At one stage it takes the form of conflict. Although the issue was resolved with the intervention of locals.

Following the dispute, the both groups locked into a fresh clash on Monday morning with local weapons. During these clashes, more than 50 individuals from both sides were injured.

The injured are receiving treatment at Sunamganj Sadar Hospital and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical, said the local sources.

Shantiganj Police Station officer-in-charge Md Jahidul Haque confirmed the matter and added that additional police have been sent to the spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control.
