Search committee formed to recommend EC commissioners

A six-member search committee has been formed under the leadership of Appellate Division Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury to recommend commissioners for the next Election Commission.

The cabinet division issued a notice to the effect on Thursday issued by Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, under the directive of the president, says the Cabinet Division will provide secretarial assistance to the committee as needed for carrying out its activities.

The other members of the search committee are High Court Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, Auditor General and Comptroller Md Nurul Islam, Bangladesh Public Service Commission Chairman Prof Mobasser Monem, former Dhaka University Department of International Relations professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, and former Bangladesh Public Service Commission chairman Dr Zinnatun Nessa Tahmida Begum.

The interim government established the search committee following the provisions of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioner Appointment Act, 2022.

Additionally, according to the law, Comptroller and Auditor General Md Nurul Islam as well as BPSC Chairman Dr Mobasser Monem are members by virtue of their positions.
