Lionel Messi once again proved why he’s one of football’s greatest, delivering a sensational free-kick goal that sealed a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory for Inter Miami against Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto.
Portuguese club FC Porto, known for its deep talent pool and regular appearances in the UEFA Champions League, started strong on Thursday night by taking an early lead.
In the 8th minute, 21-year-old Spanish forward Samu Aguiñaga converted a penalty to give Porto the advantage, which they held through the first half.
But Inter Miami, led by its star-studded lineup of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets, responded swiftly after the break. Just two minutes into the second half, 22-year-old Venezuelan midfielder Telasco Segovia found the net to level the score.
The moment of brilliance came in the 54th minute when Messi stepped up and delivered a trademark free kick, curling the ball past the wall and into the goal to give Miami the lead and ultimately the win.
With one win and one draw from two matches, Inter Miami sits second in the standings with four points. They are tied on points with Brazil’s Palmeiras, who lead the table on goal difference.
