Protesting United International University (UIU) students have threatened to observe ‘Dhaka blockade’ on Sunday if their demands are not met by Saturday.
Commuters have suffered a lot as the students blocked Natun Bazar in the capital from 8:30AM on Saturday to press home their five-point demands.
The demands include unconditionally withdrawing the expulsion order of those who were expelled due to their participation in the movement seeking vice-chancellor’s resignation and resuming normal academic activities resolving the university’s administrative crisis soon.
Private University Students Alliance of Bangladesh (PUSAB), a platform of the private university students, expressed solidarity with the protesters and joined the blockade.
The leaders of the organisation said that they will observe Dhaka blockade if their demands are not met by today.
The university expelled the students after they received very low marks in their final honours examinations, raising concerns that they might not be able to pass in future attempts, he added.
The protesting students claim the expulsions were arbitrary and are calling for both the withdrawal of the decision and administrative action against the university authorities.
