Gold prices dip by Tk 1,668 per bhori

The price of gold has been revised downward for the first time in weeks, following four consecutive hikes, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

In a press release issued Tuesday night, BAJUS announced that the price of 22-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 1,668 per bhori (equivalent to 11.664 grams), bringing the new rate to Tk 172,860 per bhori. The revised rates will be effective nationwide from Wednesday.

The association attributed the price cut to a decrease in the local market price of pure (tejaabi) gold and broader adjustments in response to current market conditions.

As per the new pricing, the rate for 21-carat gold is now Tk 1,64,999 per bhori, while 18-carat gold stands at Tk 1,41,426 per bhori. Gold made following traditional methods has been priced at Tk 1,17,002 per bhori.

These base prices exclude the mandatory 5% VAT and minimum 6% making charge, both of which are to be added. The making charge, however, may vary depending on the design and craftsmanship of the jewellery.

The previous price adjustment occurred on June 4, when BAJUS increased the 22-carat gold price by Tk 2,192, setting it at Tk 174,528 per bhori.

With this latest change, BAJUS has now adjusted gold prices 39 times in the first half of 2025—26 increases and 13 decreases—reflecting heightened volatility in the precious metals market.
