Mitford murder to face speedy trial: Asif Nazrul

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has assured that the brutal killing of a scrap metal trader in the capital’s Mitford area will be swiftly and firmly dealt with under the Speedy Trial Tribunal.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Dr. Nazrul stated, “The government is committed to ensuring a speedy trial for Mitford murder. This brutal crime will be tried promptly and exemplary punishment will be delivered.”

He confirmed that five suspects have already been arrested and that police are treating the case with the highest priority.

“The case will be transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal and proceedings will begin under Section 10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002,” he added.

The incident occurred on July 9, when Lal Chand alias Sohag, a 39-year-old scrap metal trader, was hacked, beaten and stoned to death near a gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital.
