Asia Cup 2025 : Tigers begin Asia Cup campaign with 7-wkt win over Hong Kong

Bangladesh kicked off their Asia Cup campaign on a high note, securing a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Hong Kong in their opening match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Bangladesh’s bowlers put up a disciplined performance.

The pace duo of Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, along with spinner Rishad Hossain, were instrumental, each claiming two wickets to restrict Hong Kong to a manageable total of 143 for 7 in their 20 overs. Hong Kong’s innings was anchored by Nizakat Khan, who top-scored with 42.

Chasing a target of 144, the Tigers’ batsmen showed great composure. Opener Parvez Hossain Emon got the team off to a quick start with a brisk 19 off 14 balls, while his partner Tanzid Hasan contributed 14 before both were dismissed.

The chase was then taken over by skipper Litton Das, who played a brilliant captain’s knock, scoring a superb 59 runs off just 39 balls.

He was well-supported by Towhid Hridoy, who remained unbeaten on 35 runs off 36 balls.

Litton’s half-century ensured the team was in complete control of the chase. Following Litton’s dismissal, Jaker Ali came to the crease to see out the victory alongside Hridoy.

The Tigers reached the target with plenty of balls to spare, sealing the win with 3 wickets down.
