Kylian Mbappe delivered another dazzling performance as 10-man Real Madrid battled to a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday, extending their perfect start to the season.
Mbappe opened the scoring early and later set up Arda Guler for Madrid’s second, ensuring Los Blancos stayed top of the table with four wins from four matches. Mikel Oyarzabal pulled one back for the hosts from the penalty spot, but it was not enough to deny Madrid.
The visitors played an hour with a numerical disadvantage after Dean Huijsen was sent off for pulling down Oyarzabal, yet Carlo Ancelotti’s men showed resilience to secure all three points.
“The red card changed the game a bit but we weren’t afraid. We scored the second and suffered as a team, but we go home with the three points,” Mbappe told Real Madrid TV.
Madrid’s victory leaves them three points clear at the top after Athletic Bilbao’s 1-0 defeat to Alaves, ending their unbeaten run. Atletico Madrid also picked up their first win of the campaign, beating Villarreal 2-0 thanks to goals from Pablo Barrios and debutant Nico Gonzalez.
Barcelona will look to keep pace when they host Valencia on Sunday.
