Smuggled Indian goods worth Tk 18 lakh seized at Sylhet Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk 18 lakh in separate operations along the Sylhet border.

According to the 19th Battalion of the BGB, a special patrol team from the Lobachara BOP conducted an operation in the Mangolpur area of Kanaighat upazila at around 10:30 PM on Friday.

During the drive, 42 bottles of Indian Officers Choice brand liquor worth Tk 63000 were recovered. The bottles were found abandoned about 400 yards inside the zero line of the border.

In a separate operation on Saturday, a joint patrol team from the Jaintapur, Guabari and Suraighat BOP’s carried out raids along the borders of Jaintapur and Kanaighat upazilas.

During the drive, authorities seized five Indian cows, 72200 pieces of betel nuts, 8120 packets of leaf bidis, 600 kg of flower brooms and two wooden boats.

All items were found abandoned at the border. The estimated value of these seized goods is Tk 1706000.

In total, the seized items from both operations have an estimated value worth Tk 1769000.

Zakiganj BGB Battalion commander Lt Colonel Md Zubayer Anwar confirmed the incident and said that the seized liquor has been handed over to the Department of Narcotics Control, while the remaining items are being transferred to the customs authorities.
