3 children drown in Habiganj pond

Three children drowned in a pond during a wedding ceremony at Chanpur Tea Garden in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj on Tuesday afternoon (October 14).

The deceased were Moskan Akter, 13, daughter of Selim Mia; Shamima Akter, 12, daughter of Sajid Ali; and Shania Akter, 9, daughter of Majid Ali — all from Ramgonga area of the same upazila.

According to locals, the children’s families had gone to attend a relative’s wedding at Chanpur Tea Garden. While the ceremony was taking place on one side of the house, the children were playing nearby and went down to the pond to bathe. Tragically, all three drowned.

Locals rescued them and rushed to the upazila health complex where doctors declared them dead.

Chunarughat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidul Islam confirmed the incident and said the bodies have been recovered.
