Father, daughter killed in Sylhet road accident

A man and his young daughter were killed and four others injured, in a head-on collision between a bus and a private car at Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Harun Mia and his 10-year-old daughter, Anisha Begum, residents of Khadimpur village of the upazila.

The injured were Mukit Mia, 35, Rahima Khatun, 30; wife of Azizul Islam, Panna Begum, 23; wife of Belal Ahmed and Munni Akter, 23; daughter of Safik Mia, all from the same village.

According to Osmaninagar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Monayem Mia, the accident occurred around 9:30 AM when a Sylhet-bound private car collided head-on with a Habiganj-bound bus. Harun Mia died on the spot, while his daughter Anisha succumbed to her injuries later at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Police and locals rescued the injured and took them to the hospital for treatment.

Law enforcers have since seized both vehicles involved in the crash, the OC added.

Police said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
