Goals from Murillo, Nicolò Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White sealed a deserved victory for Forest, while Liverpool struggled throughout despite periods of pressure.
Forest took the lead on 33 minutes when Murillo finished from close range following a corner.
Liverpool responded with attempts from Salah, Mac Allister and Gakpo, but Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels kept them out.
Just seconds into the second half, Forest doubled their lead as Savona rifled a shot into the top corner after being set up by Neco Williams.
Liverpool pushed forward but remained wasteful, with Salah, Isak and Chiesa all missing chances.
Forest sealed the win in the 78th minute when Gibbs-White calmly slotted home after sustained attacking pressure. Late efforts from Liverpool were again blocked or off target, as Forest comfortably protected their lead.
The result leaves Liverpool stuck on 18 points, while Forest climb to 9 and earn a vital away victory.
