An emergency flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) was convened at Chatlapur ICP station in Moulvibazar’s Kulaura upazila on Friday, following the shooting death of a Bangladeshi youth by BSF personnel along the Kulaura border.
The meeting began at noon and was led by Lt Col ASM Zakaria, PBGM, commander of BGB’s Sreemangal Battalion (46 BGB), while Acting Commandant Bhagat Darshan Saha represented India’s 199 BSF Battalion.
Members of both forces were also present.
According to BGB sources, BSF acting commandant expressed regret over the incident, describing the shooting as “unintentional” and carried out in self-defense.
During the talks, BSF requested BGB to strengthen patrols to prevent Bangladeshi nationals from crossing the international border illegally.
In response, BGB said that if any Bangladeshi is found inside India, BSF may detain them and take legal measures or hand them over to BGB for action under Bangladeshi law.
Both sides agreed to resolve any future border incidents swiftly through enhanced communication and cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace along the frontier.
The meeting concluded with both forces expressing goodwill and hope for stronger bilateral relations.
Lt Col Zakaria later confirmed the holding of emergency flag meeting.
