No legal barrier for Tarique Rahman to become voter: EC Masud

Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said that there is no legal obstacle to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman becoming a registered voter.

He also said that if the Election Commission wishes, it can register anyone as a voter at any time.

The Election Commissioner made the remarks on Friday afternoon. However, Abdur Rahmanel Masud said he could not confirm whether Tarique Rahman would come to the Election Commission building on Saturday (28 December) to complete the voter registration process.

Tarique Rahman returned to the country on Thursday after 17 years in exile.

Earlier on 22 December, following a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that Tarique Rahman would become a voter on Saturday (27 December) after returning to the country.
