Bus fares raised by 11 paisa per km after fuel price hike

Bus fares have been increased by 11 paisa per kilometre across Bangladesh following a recent rise in fuel prices.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam announced the revised fares at Secretariat on Thursday, saying the new rates take effect immediately and apply only to diesel-run buses.

Under the updated structure, fares for buses and minibuses in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas have increased from Tk2.42 to Tk2.53 per kilometre.

For long-distance routes, fares have been raised from Tk2.12 to Tk2.23 per kilometre.

The minister said CNG-run buses will remain outside the fare adjustment.

He also added that fares will be reduced in future if fuel prices come down.

No decision has yet been taken regarding fare changes for rail or water transport.

The adjustment comes after the government recently raised retail fuel prices, citing global market trends.

From April 19, diesel is priced at Tk115 per litre, octane at Tk140, petrol at Tk135 and kerosene at Tk130.
