Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson at the Prime Minister’s Office Mahdi Amin held talks with a delegation led by International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission Laura Tom Bond, stressing the need to expand overseas employment opportunities for women through safe and dignified migration.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday (16 July), focused on strengthening migration governance in Bangladesh, expanding opportunities for safe labour migration and enhancing cooperation to ensure the protection of migrants.

Mahdi Amin emphasised the importance of exploring new overseas labour markets for Bangladeshi workers, particularly in the Middle East and emerging international destinations.

He highlighted the need to increase the deployment of skilled workers, enhance workforce training and develop human resources aligned with the demands of the global labour market.

He also underscored the importance of creating more employment opportunities abroad for women through safe, orderly and dignified migration.

The discussions covered ways to make the migration process safer, more transparent, affordable and technology-driven, while ensuring greater accountability and easier access to services for migrant workers.

The IOM delegation outlined the organisation’s ongoing activities in Bangladesh and expressed its willingness to expand technical and technological support for various government initiatives.

The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to assisting the government in improving migration management and providing modern services for overseas-bound workers.

The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming launch of Bangladesh’s National Action Plan under the Global Compact for Migration, which is being implemented in partnership with the government of Bangladesh.
