Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday submitted the nomination paper on behalf of its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for the presidential election.
A BNP delegation led by its Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan submitted the nomination paper to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, the Chief Election Officer for the presidential election, at the Election Building in city’s Agargaon.
BNP Standing Committee Member and Narsingdi-2 constituency lawmaker Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan proposed Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as a presidential candidate in the nomination paper while BNP Standing Committee Member and Dhaka-3 constituency lawmaker Gayeshwar Chandra Roy supported it.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally announced Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the BNP candidate for the presidency at a meeting of the party’s Standing Committee.
The Prime Minister proposed Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s name for the presidential nomination, and the Standing Committee members unanimously approved the proposal.
The meeting was held on Thursday at the meeting room of the Cabinet Division at the Prime Minister’s Office in Bangladesh Secretariat.
On 9 August, Chief Whip of the Parliament Nurul Islam Moni and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi collected the nomination paper from the office of the Chief Election Officer.
