Labour Party introduces bus for UK General Election campaign

Labour Party has introduced a special bus to help to run the campaign for its Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.  The campaign bus started its journey from Labour Party Head Office in central London on Tuesday 24 March with named ‘BAME Bus’. Around 45 BAME members, including seven of Bangladesh origin, are taking part in the general election on behalf of the Labour Party.
Among the Bangladesh-origin candidates were Rushanara Ali, MP from Bethnal Green and Bow, Tulip Siddiq contesting from Hampstead and Kilburn and and Rupa Huq contesting from Ealing
Central and Acton. Other contenders are Anwar Babul Miah, Merina Ahmed, Sumon Haque, and Akhlakul Islam.Keith Vaz, Chairman of Labour Party’s Ethnic Minority Taskforce said his party had given nominations to the highest number of ethnic candidates.  At a programme launching the BAME Bus on Tuesday, Vaz also emphasised that at least three out of seven candidates would win. Candidate of Bethnal Green and Bow and the current MP Rushanara Ali and candidate of Ealing and Acton Rupa Huq, were present, among others, at the programme. Rushanara Ali said, “Labour Party’s policies are for the general population. If the party wins, NHS would be secured, tuitions would be reduced, tax would be lowered, and new housing would be arranged.”
At present, 15 Labour Party MPs belong to the BAME.
