Independence and National Day celebrated in Sylhet

53The 45th Independence and National Day-2015 was observed everywhere in Sylhet division yesterday in a befitting manner amid huge enthusiasm and festivity with a fresh vow to build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Tens of thousands of the cheerful people of all ages and professions spontaneously gathered at the Shaheed Minars, stadiums, grounds of the educational intuitions and open places to take part in the day-long programme to celebrate the day.

The district administrations had chalked out programmes, including hoisting of national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, institutions, arranged receptions to the freedom fighters (FFs) and family members of martyred FFs.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes and placing of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minars, Independence Memorials and monuments of the martyred FFs at the district headquarters at the zero hours.

Colourful rallies, march pasts of the FFs, police, Ansar and VDP, scouts, girls in scout, fire service and civil defense personnel, jail guards, BNCC, students and children and screening of documentary films at cinema halls and open places marked celebrations of the day.
Different competitions for the children, women and professionals on independence and sports, cultural functions, discussion meetings, prize distribution ceremonies and colourful cultural functions were arranged in all district and upazila headquarters.

The main streets and roadside islands were decorated with the national flags, colourful posters and miniatures, the government buildings and buildings of the other organisations illuminated since last evening giving the city an eye-catching look.

Special prayers were offered at the mosques, temples, pagodas and churches seeking divine blessings for the souls of the martyred FFs and improved diets served to the inmates of all hospitals, jails, vagabond centers, shishu paribars and orphanages.
The divisional and district administrations, Sylhet City Corporation and dozens of the other organisations had chalked out similar programmes to celebrate the day with huge festivity and enthusiasm in a befitting manner.

Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Jamal Uddin Ahmed, placed floral wreaths at Collectorate Shaheed Minar and DIG of Sylhet Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Md. Shohidul Islam and other officials other administrative officials followed them.

Leaders of Awami League, Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jatiyo Party, Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal, Gano Forum, Ganotantry Party, Swechchasebak League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Sramik League, Workers Party, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh and other political leaders placed wreaths.

The Divisional Commissioner took salute of the colourful march pasts and displays at Sylhet Stadium in the morning.
Sylhet Kendra of Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes and the local dailies, weeklies and monthlies published special supplementary issues glorifying importance and dignity of the day.

The Divisional Commissioner addressed the main discussion organised by the district administration at the Kobi Nozrul Auditoriam in the evening focusing significance of the day with the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md. Shohidul Islam in the chair.
