Celebrating Women’s Skills under One Roof

1In celebration of Women’s month Pearl Advertising hosted the Women’s Day Bazaar 2015 on Saturday the 28th March at the Montefiore Centre in East London. The aim was to help women promote their skills and businesses under one roof, which was certainly the case with more than 30 stall holders and over 300 women, men and children attending the free multicultural community event.
The event had an array of eye dazzling dance groups from Tower Hamlets including the E.C. Lighthouse Lithuanian Group who were absolutely fantastic and co-ordinated by Edgaras Jankauskas. The Osmani School performed a famous and colourful poem about picking mangoes co-ordinated by Hasna Rahman and Fatema Khanom Choudhury and finally the Chinese Independent School of Tower Hamlets –Moon Goddess Dance Group performed exquisitely which was co-ordinated by their teachers Maggie Tsui and Yiyi He. Other musical entertainments were songs by International singers Rubayyat Jahan and Stephanie Rodriguez.
The children had a great time with many free activities from Face painting, balloons, making fruit kebabs, colouring and taking part in the Easter Egg Competition whilst having Easter eggs and drinks. The Easter Egg Competition was a great success with over 45 entries. Winners were announced by a surprise visit by Elsa from Frozen. First prize winner was Zaara Uddin (9) from Manor School, in Second place was Harrison Smith (4) from Spitalfields Children’s Centre and the third winner was Nahid Ahmed (5).

It’s always wonderful to experience the diversity and talent we have in society. Our speakers, Shahida Rahman, Polly Islam and Nadia Ali did a great job inspiring these Women and our volunteers Shirina Ali , Tannu Khanna , Nasim Choudhury, Kasim Choudhury , Saima Hussain, Samiul Choudhury and Lii Kamali an aspiring grafiti artist were fantastic”.
Stall holders on the day and their thoughts:
“I’m an online business with over 10,000 facebook followers. This fun-filled community event was a great opportunity to meet customers in person and showcase my work of unique inspired candles and gifts for home decor and special occasions. Everyone really liked our products.”   Masuma Uddin- Luxury Henna Art
“I’ve had a great time being a part of The Womens Day Bazaar. It was a great opportunity for small businesses like mine to expand and get it direct to the customer. I recently started my own website for my business – wwe.nenucospainsfinestcologne.co.uk which has products from Cologne to Air fresheners”    Polly Summerson-  Nenuco
“It all started as a hobby, making gift hampers for friends and family which grew through word of mouth. The hampers include a variety of items such as baby clothes, toiletries and educational materials. Taking out a stall in this event gave me exposure and was a great way to meet people within the community that come from all walks of life. Thank you to the event organisers.  Stall holder Sharifa Khatun-Rifas little Munchkins
After maternity leave I decided to not return to my Job as an Employment Adviser. The plan has always been to start a home baking business which would allow me to be creative, incorporating my love of design with cakes and hand painted/decorated cookies. The feedback received on the day was very positive and a good opportunity to meet other women starting businesses.   Fateha Zaman-Fatty Bakes
“I was so envious of all these talented women around me . One day I decided to make pin cushions in different designs. Then I started making jewellery boxes and other items. Slowly I developed a fan base as demand for these products grew. Booking a stall at the Women’s Day Bazaar has helped me get my work known out there further, especially with the local community. I will certainly attend again next year.   Shuma Begum- M.i.n.s.creationz
I joined Avon “the company for women” 6yrs ago, I was a young mum and had no one to look after my son so I decided to work from home. 2yrs ago I became a sales leader and now I am working along with the Akomalafe. Our stall in the women’s day bazaar recruited 8 women to start with Avon and we would want to encourage more women to join Avon to build confidence and experience. Jasmine Khanum- Avon
