Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy’s 74 runs helped Bangladesh to post 306 runs, their first 300-run total in the tournament, against Australia in the 43rd match of the ICC Men’s CricketWorld Cup 2023 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday.
After being asked to first against Aussies’, Bangladesh started cautiously but they accelerated in the last few overs of the initial powerplay, scoring 62 runs in the first 10 overs.
The first wicket fell at 76 when Tanzid Hasan nicked one to Sean Abbott. Najmul Hossain Shanto joined Litton Das and they built a solid partnership until Das was caught by Marnus Labuschagne on 36. Towhid Hridoy’s arrival boosted the scoring rate, and he and Shanto added 64 runs for the 4th wicket.
Despite losing wickets, Bangladesh maintained a good strike rate. Hridoy top-scored with 74 runs, while Mehidy Hasan played a brilliant cameo of 29 runs at the end.
On the other hand, the Australian bowlers had a tough time in the powerplay, lacking bite. However, they regained control with some effective bowling towards the end.
Adam Zampa once again showcased his brilliance, taking two wickets for 32 runs in his 10 overs. Sean Abbott also contributed with two wickets, although he was a bit expensive today.
Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a wicket as well. Marnus Labuschagne was outstanding in the field, taking two catches and executing two run-outs, making a significant impact by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah.
