Two children drown in floodwater in Moulvibazar

Two children drowned in floodwater in Moulvibazar’s Juri upazila on Monday.

The accident took place in the afternoon at Manoil village under Jaifarnagar union of the upazila.

The dead were Rana, 8, son of Billal Mia, a resident of Mantail village, and Md Rana, 9, son of Faruk Mia. They were students of KBA Hia Govt Primary School.

Jaifarnagar UP chairman Masum Reza said the two boys were playing in flood water. At one stage, the two suddenly drowned in deep water.

Later, locals rescued them and took to the upazila health complex where the on-duty doctor declared Rana dead. The another boy was sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for better treatment. After being taken there, he was declared dead.

Juri Police Station sub-inspector Sirajul Islam confirmed it.
