All European Bangabandhu Parishad’s vice president, Ansar Ahmed Ullah, recently received his PhD degree from Queen Mary University, and the organisation organized a reception for him.
Under the chair of the executive president of the organisation, former mayor of Tower Hamlets Salim Ullah and under the direction of general secretary S M Mustafizur Rahman, held on July 16 at a restaurant hall in East London, Hafiz Jilu Khan recited the Quran at the beginning of the ceremony.
Later, a documentary by Noman Ahmed on the works of Ansar Ahmed Ullah was screened.
Ansar Ahmed Ullah said in his acceptance speech said that although he did not write a history of the anti-racist movement, his thesis would provide a source of further research on the Bengali-led movement.
Chief guest Dr Zaidul Hasan said in his speech that Ansar Ahmed Ullah had done a great job in researching the Bengali anti-racist movement of the 1970s in East London. He also said that this thesis will serve as material for writing any comprehensive history in the future.
Former councillor and anti-racist activist Nooruddin Ahmed, researcher Faruque Ahmed, vice president of the organisation Abu Hossain, vice president Dr Anisur Rahman Anis, Mahila Awami League vice president Husneara Matin, joint general secretary Golam Hossain Abab, filmmaker Md Emdadul Haque Akand, journalist Ahad Chowdhury Babu and filmmaker Noman Ahmed and many others. The speakers also said that publishing this thesis as a book in English and Bengali will benefit the new generation.
At the reception, Ansar Ahmed Ullah was presented with a crest. At the end of the event, everyone was treated to dinner.
