Govt abolishes marriage registration tax

The government has cancelled the tax on marriage registration, according to an announcement made by Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul during a press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

“The tax on marriage registration has been removed. The ministry has decided to cancel this illogical tax,” he said. Dr. Nazrul confirmed that the decision takes effect immediately, stating, “I have signed the document today. You can now get married without paying any tax.”

Additionally, changes have been made to the marriage registration form. The term “virgin,” previously used alongside “married” to describe a bride’s status, has been replaced with “unmarried,” a move the adviser described as addressing the term’s disrespectful connotation.

Dr. Nazrul highlighted these reforms as part of a series of changes aimed at improving governance. “We have made many such adjustments and plan to implement more in the future,” he concluded.
