49 arrested over vandalism of business establishments during anti-Israel protests

Police have arrested 49 people for attacking shops and business establishments nationwide during Monday’s protest in solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemning Israeli aggression in Gaza.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed this in press release on Tuesday.

“Two cases were filed in connection with the incident. Investigation is underway. These attacks and vandalism are a violation of public safety and the rule of law. Police have taken swift steps over the incident,” the release said.

Meanwhile, police headquarters AIG Inamul Haque Sagar said, “The attackers will be brought under trial after scrutinising CCTVs.”

According to the press release, the acts were carried out with the intention to destabilise the country and tarnish its image globally.

Ahsan Habib, ADC of Khulna Metropolitan Police, said a total of 31 people were detained in connection with vandalism and looting at Khulna city’s Bata showroom and KFC. Video footage of the incidents were later collected and reviewed to identify those involved. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers.
