Prime accused Mehraj placed on 5-day remand in Parvez Murder case

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for Mehraj Islam, 20, the prime accused in the murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Primeasia University.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub issued the order after police sought a 10-day remand for Mehraj, who was arrested by RAB-13 from Gaibandha Sadar on April 23. He is the son of Nurul Islam Sardar from the Banani Hajaribari area of the capital.

Parvez, a third-year Textile Engineering student, was fatally attacked along with his friend Md Tariqul Islam on April 19 near the university campus in Banani. The assailants used sharp weapons, leaving Parvez critically injured. He was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Following the incident, Parvez’s cousin Humayun Kabir filed a case at Banani Police Station on April 20. The case named eight people and accused a total of 25 to 30 individuals of involvement in the attack.
