Khaleda enters ‘Firoza’ amid massive supporters’ gathering

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia reached her Gulshan residence ‘Firoza’ around 1:25PM amid huge crowd.

Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and late Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Syeda Shamila Rahman were also with her.

It took two hours for the motorcade to make the 11.5km journey from the airport to her home. Along the way, the party chief was welcomed by thousands of supporters and party activists.

Khaleda Zia’s sister Selima Islam, younger brother Shamim Iskandar, Shamim’s wife Kaniz Fatima and Zubaida’s elder sister Shahina Zaman Bindu and other family members greeted Khaleda Zia at Feroza.

Zubaida Rahman, who left Dhaka in 2008 with her husband and daughter, returned to the country after 17 years.

The party leaders, activists and supporters were on the street from Dhaka airport to Gulshan alongwith national and party flags to welcome their leader, who returned home after four-month of advanced treatment in London.

Earlier, a special air ambulance of Qatar’s Emir, carrying her and her entourage, landed at the airport at about 10:38AM. Later, the BNP chief started for her Gulshan residence ‘Feroza’ directly from there with her two daughter-in-laws.

Extensive security measures have been taken surrounding Feroza and the roads in front of it, including the deployment of large numbers of police personnel.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman accompanied her mother at the London airport. The plane departed from London’s Heathrow Airport at 4:20pm local time.

The former Prime Minister traveled to London on January 8 aboard a special air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar for advanced treatment for multiple health complications, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, respiratory complications, cardiac issues and ophthalmological concerns.

Upon arrival, she was admitted to the London Clinic, a private hospital, where she remained under the care of renowned specialists Professor Patrick Kennedy and Professor Jennifer Cross for 17 days.

Since 25 January, she had been receiving treatment at the residence of her elder son, Tarique Rahman.
