Yamal shines as Barca clinch La Liga title in style

A moment of magic from teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and a composed finish from Fermín López sealed a 2-0 win for Barcelona over Espanyol in Catalan derby; a victory that confirmed Barca as La Liga champions with two games to spare.

Under new coach Hansi Flick, the Catalan giants have enjoyed a dream debut season, adding the league title to their Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup triumphs.

Barcelona looked unconvincing in first half, with both team and Yamal struggling to find their rhythm. But after the break, the 17 -year-old winger showed why he’s one of the most talked-about young talents in world football. In 53rd minute, he picked up the ball near the right touchline, weaved his way inside with a silky dribble and unleashed a precise left-footed strike that flew past goalkeeper into the net.

The victory was sealed deep into stoppage time when Fermín López scored a second goal in 95th minute. Interestingly, López had also found the net in dying moments of El Clásico earlier in the season, though that goal had been disallowed.

With this win, Barcelona move to 85 points from 36 matches, seven points clear of Real Madrid, who have 78 from same number of games. Even if Madrid win their remaining two fixtures, they cannot overtake the Catalans.

This title marks Barca’s 28th La Liga crown, while Real Madrid remain all-time leaders with 36. For coach Hansi Flick, it’s a dream start to life at Camp Nou, with three major trophies secured in his first season. The team is set to celebrate the league triumph on Friday with their fans in heart of Barcelona.
